Shuuro - Reviews
What they say about Shuuro:
‘Game play is more cheerful than chess and reminds one of classic battle games more than chess. It could well be a ‘lighter’ way of introducing children and adults alike to the game of chess proper.’
Adolivio Capece, chess Master and editor-in-chief of ‘L’Italia Scacchistica’ magazine
‘This IS my chess set. I don’t need any other chess sets.’
Tom Vasel, The Dice Tower

‘Any implementation of terrain in a chess variant is nearly unique and this elegant approach was very stimulating. My guys were also surprised at how enjoyable Shuuro is.’
Samuel L. Han, author of ‘The Chess Variants Cookbook’
-
‘Shuuro brings chess a little closer to the battle game it claims to be.’
Mike Siggins, game reviewer for Funagain.com and Battle Games magazine
-
‘Alternatively, the chess player who has learned “standard”openings and defences may find themselves heavily challenged by Shuuro, whilst the more flexible but less skilled military boardgamer may adapt more easily. ’

‘Before playing I had been ready to dismiss Shuuro as an unnecessary chess variant but I certainly enjoyed it, and it is to the game's credit that on my walk home I was occupied with thoughts of how to build my force for next time (bishops are best I'm sure!).’

Overall, I was surprised at how much I liked this game. I'm not a chess fan, and was quite honestly dreading having to review this game, as I didn't think I'd like it. I was wrong.
